Swing state Democrat cozying up to Joe Biden in bid to save her seat

 August 22, 2023

Despite the evident decline in President Joe Biden's popularity in Nevada and across the nation, Sen. Jacky Rosen, a Democrat from the state, is extending her support to him, highlighting an intriguing run-up to the highly anticipated 2024 Senate race, as Fox News reported.

Rosen's Campaign Strategy

In a recent conversation with The Messenger, when asked if she'd be eager to campaign with Biden to charm the Nevada electorate, Sen. Rosen unflinchingly affirmed, "Yes." She went on to say, "I think what we have to talk about are the policies that we put in place."

Rosen has been vocally supportive of the president and repeatedly endorsed legislation passed mostly along party lines during the initial two years of the Democratic majority in Congress.

This includes the much-debated Inflation Reduction Act and the significant $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill of 2021.

Rosen emphasized to the media, "When you're an incumbent, you run on how you've been dealing with people, and that's really important. We had the message that we were going to deliver, and we have delivered."

National and Statewide Polling Trends

A concerning dip is noticeable in President Biden's national approval ratings. A recent Fox News survey indicated a mere 42% approval for Biden, while 58% expressed disapproval.

This negative 16-point net rating reveals a steeper decline from the previous month, when he was down by only 11 points.

Biden's situation doesn't fare any better in Nevada. Consistent polling data portrays a glaring double-digit gap between those who support his administration and those against it, intensifying the scrutiny of close statewide elections in recent years.

In 2018, during the midterm elections, Rosen clinched a victory against former Republican Sen. Dean Heller by a margin of 5%.

This was a period when the Democrats were projected to have a distinct edge over the Republicans, who were then in control of Congress and the White House.

Furthermore, Heller's win against his Democratic rival in 2012 was a tight race, with a mere 1% lead. The subsequent two presidential races showed similarly tight results, with a less than 3% margin.

Moreover, the 2022 midterm elections saw Republican Adam Laxalt fall short by a whisker against Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, losing by fewer than 8,000 votes.

The forthcoming election sees an influx of Republican contenders keen to challenge Rosen. Among them is Afghanistan War veteran Sam Brown, who made an unsuccessful bid for the GOP Senate nomination in 2022.

Republicans Eye 2024 Senate Majority

The outcome of this race might be pivotal in determining the controlling party of the Senate for the 2024 term. The current scenario seems skewed in favor of the Republicans.

While Democrats maintain a precarious majority by a single seat, three independents are supporting the party.

Consequently, the Republicans have set their sights on this seat, viewing it as a ripe opportunity to transition from blue to red.

Maggie Abboud, National Republican Senatorial Committee spokeswoman, conveyed her sentiments, stating, "Jacky Rosen has done nothing to distance herself from Joe Biden despite the fact that he is extremely unpopular in Nevada. Nevadans will hold Rosen accountable for backing the Biden agenda that has emptied their wallets and opened the southern border."
