Taylor Lautner's Spouse, 27, Shares Breast Cancer Alarm After Finding Lump

 July 4, 2024
Taylor Dome, a registered nurse and wife to actor Taylor Lautner, recently faced a frightening breast health scare.According to Mail Online, Taylor Dome encountered a terrifying moment when she discovered a hard lump on her breast, which thankfully turned out to be benign. While showering, Dome discovered a hard lump on her breast. This unexpected discovery immediately distressed her. "I kinda, like, paused for a second and was like, 'Wait. What?' And then I pressed on it again and started to feel it. And there was this hard lump there," she recounted on her podcast, The Squeeze.

Emotional Turmoil and Immediate Concerns

As soon as she detected the lump, Dome felt overwhelmed with fear, which caused an immediate emotional breakdown. She described feeling something foreign in her body as particularly terrifying. Her husband, Taylor Lautner, shared his own fears while trying to maintain a composed demeanor to support her.

"When you told me, I was terrified but tried not to show you that I was terrified," Lautner described during the podcast episode, which he co-hosts with his wife.

Medical Evaluation and Relief

After discovering the lump, Dome visited a breast center for a medical evaluation, where doctors confirmed that the lump was not harmful.

Despite the benign nature of the lump, it remains in her breast tissue, affected by hormonal changes. "The tissue can just, like, move around hormonally. It can change. It's still there to this day, and it hasn't gone away," Dome shared, aiming to educate listeners about natural body changes.

Addressing Mental Health Challenges

About a month after the health scare, Dome experienced significant mental health struggles, including depression and severe anxiety.

She found herself unable to leave her bed or engage in work, spending her days aimlessly scrolling through her phone or watching Netflix. These issues were compounded by the unexpected cessation of her birth control, due to her doctor's retirement.

Realizing the cause of her mental health decline, she quickly sought a new prescription for birth control, which helped stabilize her emotional state.

"Once I've realized it, I slightly felt better about it [but] there was nothing I could do about it besides to figure out how to get back on my birth control," she noted.

Advocacy for Women's Health Awareness

Dome used her podcast platform to remind her listeners about the importance of regular self-examinations for breast health. She highlighted that, although breast cancer does not run in her family, other forms of cancer do, which exacerbated her initial fear.

"Breast cancer doesn't run in my family, but I've had a lot of cancer within my family, so I think that's why I was also very scared. It's also just important for people to know — as hard as it is — to know that it is very normal for that to happen," Dome advised.

The Importance of Open Communication

The couple's experience has spurred them to discuss mental health openly on their podcast. Their candid conversations aim to destigmatize mental health struggles and foster a supportive community.

Dome's ability to share her fears and recovery journey has made their dialogue on The Squeeze a powerful tool for raising awareness.

"We're lumpy, but we're healthy," Dome humorously concluded, underscoring the common, yet often alarming, nature of such health scares.

In conclusion, Taylor Dome's breast health scare not only highlighted the importance of self-awareness regarding bodily changes but also underscored the critical need for mental health support in such crises.

By sharing their story publicly, the Lautners hope to empower others facing similar fears and encourage open discussions about health and well-being.
