Texas AG Paxton Claims Impeachment Plot by GOP Lawmakers

 July 12, 2024

Next week's Texas House General Investigating Committee hearing will once again spotlight Attorney General Ken Paxton, who alleges it is part of a persistent bid by Republican lawmakers to oust him from office.

Paxton, who faced impeachment last year with all charges ultimately dismissed, views the imminent hearing as a politically driven move by his adversaries, as the Post Millennial reports.

Paxton Criticizes Upcoming Committee Hearing

The Texas House General Investigating Committee is scheduled to convene on July 17. Ken Paxton, the Republican AG, has expressed sharp disapproval of the meeting. According to Paxton, the hearing represents another endeavor by the political establishment to impeach him.

The hearing, Paxton claims, is another episode in a series of politically motivated actions targeting him.

"Next week's House General Investigating Committee is yet another desperate attempt by the Republican establishment to impeach me. Their bitter obsession with taking me down knows no bounds, and they will stop at nothing to remove me from office," Paxton stated to Newsmax's Rob Schmitt.

Last year, Paxton faced impeachment over allegations of misuse of political power. However, every article of impeachment against him was dismissed. Paxton now asserts this latest initiative is a conspiracy by both "establishment Republicans and Democrats."

Paxton Alleges Political Conspiracy

Paxton has vocally criticized what he describes as a "sham impeachment" orchestrated by the Biden Administration alongside liberal House Speaker Dade Phelan. Paxton draws parallels between his situation and former President Donald Trump's legal challenges. "Just as Biden has used the justice system to target Donald Trump, establishment Republicans in Texas have joined forces with Democrats to launch a full-force lawfare assault against me," he proclaimed.

He further accuses his fellow Republicans, particularly those he refers to as "lame-duck Republicans," of colluding with Democrats against him. Paxton asserts these Republicans are seeking vengeance for losing their primaries, crediting him for their defeats. "These lame-duck Republicans, who lost their primaries thanks to my support, are now conspiring with Democrats to remove me from office," Paxton contended.

According to Paxton, his effective delivery of conservative results in Texas and his vigilance against voter fraud have drawn ire from political adversaries. He warned that his removal would facilitate election rigging, undermining democracy in both Texas and the United States.

"The pro-open-border Republican and Democrats want to rig this election against Trump, and if I am removed it would pose the biggest threat to American and Texas democracy as another AG would not prosecute voter fraud," Paxton insisted.

Committee Members Dismiss Paxton's Claims

Not everyone agrees with Paxton's portrayal of the events. An anonymous committee member, when interviewed by the Texas Tribune, categorically denied Paxton's allegations. "No truth whatsoever" was their response to Paxton's charge of an impeachment plot.

Additionally, Texas House General Investigating Committee Chair Rep. Andrew Murr remained tight-lipped on the issue. Citing the committee's practice of keeping meeting subjects confidential, Murr declined to comment on Paxton's statements.

The notice for the upcoming meeting revealed that it would address committee business and might enter an executive session for authorized matters, without indicating specifics about the content or focus.

Paxton Calls for Collective Action

Amid his criticisms, Paxton called on Republicans, conservatives, and patriots across the country to push back against the efforts he deems politically motivated. "The Austin elite cannot go unchecked. Republicans, conservatives, and patriots across the state and country need to come together and fight back. We have defeated the establishment class in Austin before, and we will do it again," he urged.

Paxton believes his political battle is part of a broader struggle to maintain election integrity and prevent voter fraud. He frames his role as crucial in safeguarding conservative values in Texas and beyond. "I have delivered conservative results in Texas and have been the last line of defense against voter fraud. But mark my words, these weak-kneed, pro-open border Republicans will work with the Democrats to replace me with an AG who will turn a blind eye to voter fraud," Paxton declared.

The situation adds to ongoing tensions within the Texas GOP as the July 17 hearing approaches. As the political drama unfolds, the outcome could significantly shape the state's political landscape.

Conclusion

The upcoming Texas House General Investigating Committee hearing on July 17 is poised to renew the spotlight on Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Paxton, who was impeached but had all charges dismissed last year, criticizes the hearing as a politically driven effort by establishment Republicans and Democrats aiming to remove him from office. In turn, committee members have denied these allegations, with the hearing notice remaining vague on specifics.

This unfolding scenario sharply delineates the ongoing political struggle and its implications for the future of the Lone Star State.
