TikTok Star Criticizes Oprah And VP Harris For Unauthorized Video Use

 September 24, 2024

A TikTok creator publicly denounced the use of her video during a televised town hall with Vice President Kamala Harris, hosted by Oprah Winfrey.

According to Fox News, Blaire Allison, a popular content creator, expressed discontent after her TikTok video was featured without her consent on Oprah Winfrey’s show during an interview with Kamala Harris.Last Thursday, a town hall interview conducted by Oprah Winfrey featuring Vice President Kamala Harris included a short clip of TikTok creator Blaire Allison. This clip, originally posted in November 2023, highlighted the growing concerns about the cost of living faced by Americans.

Allison, whose video initially aimed to shed light on the financial challenges, particularly for teachers and minimum wage workers, found her content repurposed in a political context. The segment aired caught her off-guard, as she claimed Winfrey's team sought no permission to use her footage.

Reacting to the scenario, Allison uploaded a response on TikTok over the weekend. Her video, infused with critical remarks about Harris, quickly spread, bringing in a significant viewership.

Unexpected Use Of Personal Content In Political Arena

The response video uploaded by Allison did not just critique the unsolicited use of her content; it also served as a platform for her to dissociate from Harris’s presidential campaign. “To my Americans: Let me make something perfectly clear, OK? I do not support Harris for president,” she stated emphatically in a mocking tone.

Her disapproval didn’t stop at the initial TikTok. Allison continued to elaborate on her stance through multiple videos and on various social media platforms, emphasizing her disillusionment with the current political discourse and her non-support for Vice President Harris.

The cumulative views on Allison's response video on platform X surpassed two million, reflecting a widespread engagement from viewers around her message and the manner of its inclusion in the political interview.

TikTok Creator's Outcry Over Unauthorized Feature

Additionally, Allison took to other platforms to express her discontent. She highlighted in an email communication to Fox News Digital, “I am a very patriotic American and I don't believe Harris puts Americans first, nor has established a plan on how she will improve Americans' livelihoods.”

Frustration was palpable in Allison's recount of the ordeal. “I was disappointed that such a well-known talk show such as Oprah Winfrey didn't even notify me they were using my clip, which didn't allow me time to watch the footage until people in my community notified me,” she shared.

The original TikTok, where Allison pondered on how individuals are managing the current economic strain, "How are people affording life right now? How are people tackling this cost of living on the average American salary?" resonated with many, earning over 1000,000 views by Sunday morning.

VP Harris's Recent Media Engagements Amid Criticism

Kamala Harris has ramped up her media appearances following a noticeable absence amidst this controversy. Harris had not held an official press conference for 63 days after her nomination as the Democratic presidential candidate before this interview with Oprah.

Her recent engagements include an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash and a speech at the National Association of Black Journalists event. These appearances seem to be part of a broader strategy to reconnect with the media and public, possibly in response to growing scrutiny.

The usage of Allison’s video thus falls into a complex narrative of political campaigning and media interaction, where the lines between personal expression and political endorsement appear blurred.
