Trump Endorsed by Major Police Union, Criticizes Harris Over Defunding Stance

 September 9, 2024

The nation’s largest police union has officially endorsed Donald Trump for the presidency.

In a serious blow to Kamala Harris' campaign, Trump received the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) in North Carolina, and in accepting their support, he attacked the VP's past positions on law enforcement, as Fox News reports.

At a meeting in North Carolina, Trump was endorsed by the FOP, the oldest and largest police organization in the country.

This endorsement marks the third time the FOP has backed Trump, having previously supported him in the 2016 and 2020 elections.

Trump's Commitment to Law Enforcement Highlighted

FOP National President Patrick Yoes spoke at the event, emphasizing the significance of public safety and border security as key issues in the upcoming election.

He praised Trump’s first-term achievements, particularly his unwavering support for law enforcement.

“Public safety and border security will be important issues in the last months of this campaign... Our members carefully considered the positions of the candidates on the issues and there was no doubt—zero doubt—as to who they want as our President for the next four years: Donald J. Trump,” said Yoes.

Resistance to "Defund the Police" Movement

In the summer of 2020, when calls to defund the police gained momentum, Trump stood firmly against them, an action that Yoes highlighted as crucial for reducing crime rates.

“In the summer of 2020, he stood with us when very few would. With his help, we defeated the ‘defund the police’ movement and, finally, we are seeing crime rates decrease,” Yoes added.

Yoes also pointed out that while Trump met with FOP leadership, Kamala Harris did not extend a similar offer, which influenced their endorsement decision.

Trump’s Promises to End "Kamala's Crime Wave"

During his speech, Trump criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for her alleged long-time support of defunding the police. He linked her stance to a rise in violent crimes and assaults on police officers.

“I back the blue more than any other. I was not a defunder like Kamala. She was a defunder. She was a ten-year defunder. When you, when you want to defend for ten years, that's the end of that one,” Trump declared.

He promised to tackle and reverse the crime trends if reelected.

“The day I take office is the day that Kamala's crime wave comes to an end. It's a crime wave in our country. We've never seen anything like it,” he vowed.

Respect and Admiration for Law Enforcement Expressed

Trump also took the opportunity to express his respect and admiration for law enforcement officers.

“To all of the law enforcement men and women here today, I respect you so much. I admire you, and as your president, I will always back the blue as I did,” he said.

This endorsement solidifies Trump’s image as a staunch supporter of law enforcement as he heads into the closing months of the campaign.

“It's an honor to be here. This is a big endorsement for me…It's an honor. I'm thrilled to be back with the incredible heroes and patriots of the Fraternal Order of Police, an incredible group and a group that's highly respected all over the country,” Trump concluded.
