Trump Reaches Out to Rep. Nancy Mace After Assault by Transgender Activist

 December 12, 2024

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) was attacked by a transgender activist at the U.S. Capitol, leaving her with a wrist injury.

The congresswoman later received a supportive phone call from President-elect Donald Trump following the incident, as Breitbart reports, with the suspect, James McIntyre, now facing charges of assaulting a government official.

The assault took place in the Rayburn House Office Building around 6:00 p.m. when McIntyre, a 33-year-old man from Illinois, physically assaulted Mace.

Mace later detailed the incident on X (formerly Twitter), identifying McIntyre as a "pro-tr*ns man" and noting that the attack resulted in a wrist injury. She mentioned that ice and a wrist brace would aid her recovery.

U.S. Capitol Police arrested McIntyre shortly after the assault, confirming the details and charging him with assaulting a government official.

Mace, who is known for her strong stance on issues surrounding transgender rights, had been vocal about her opposition to biological men using women’s spaces in federally funded facilities, which many left-leaning activists have criticized.

This assault comes in the wake of Mace's recent legislative push, introducing the "Stop the Invasion of Women’s Spaces Act," which aims to prevent biological men from accessing women’s restrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms in public spaces. Mace has also faced significant backlash from critics who disagree with her stance on the issue, with some even issuing death threats.

Response to the Attack and Political Backlash

Despite the hateful rhetoric and threats she has received, Mace remained steadfast. In an emotional post on X, she criticized those on the left who advocate for transgender rights in women’s spaces.

“I’m not going to allow biological men into women’s private spaces,” Mace wrote. “I will stand in the brink and stand in the way of anyone on the radical left who thinks that it’s ok for a penis to be in a women’s locker room or a bathroom or a changing room. Hell no, I’m not going to stand for it.”

Mace also voiced her frustration with the lack of condemnation from her political opponents. “Why is it that these crazy people, the insanity, the radical left are willing to kill women over a man’s right to be in a women’s restroom?” Mace questioned, calling out the left’s tolerance of violence against women.

In a later post, Mace pointed to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who had recently argued that preventing biological men from using women’s facilities endangers women. Mace expressed doubt that Ocasio-Cortez or others in the left-wing movement would condemn the violence she had faced.

Despite the personal attacks and violent threats, Mace seemed resolute in her views. “Forcing women to share private spaces with men is not dignity and not respect,” she added. “Never want to hear the Left call themselves the party of love and tolerance ever again.” She went further, accusing the left of supporting "violence against women."

Trump Offers Support After Assault

Following the assault, President-elect Donald Trump reached out to Mace by phone to offer his support. Mace shared the conversation on X, thanking Trump for his concern and commending his stance on standing up for women. “Just got off the phone with @Realdonaldtrump. Thank you, Mr. President, for checking in on me and for standing up for women. We cannot wait to see you back in the White House. #HoldTheLine,” Mace tweeted.

The timing of the assault and Trump’s outreach drew significant attention. Trump’s vocal support for Mace comes amid ongoing national debates about transgender rights and the safety of women’s spaces. Mace’s critics, including some on the left, argue that her position is harmful to transgender people, while supporters say her stance is vital to protecting women’s privacy and safety.

While Mace recovers from her wrist injury, the incident has only intensified the political and social debates surrounding transgender rights and the definition of women’s spaces. Mace has made it clear that she will not back down in the face of threats, vowing to continue defending her position regardless of the opposition she faces.

Polarization and the Future of Women's Spaces

The attack on Mace highlights the increasing polarization in American politics, particularly surrounding issues of gender identity and women’s rights. It also underscores the physical and emotional toll that public service can take on elected officials, especially those who take controversial positions on hot-button issues.

As Mace heals, both sides of the debate are likely to continue their fierce exchanges over her stance, her policies, and the broader implications of her actions. With the national stage watching, the controversy shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

The Capitol Police have yet to release further details on McIntyre’s background or the specific motivations behind the assault. However, the arrest and charges signal the seriousness with which authorities are treating the incident.

Mace’s continued advocacy for her cause, coupled with the violence she has faced, has made her a focal point in the ongoing discussion about transgender rights and the future of women’s spaces in the U.S.
