Trump refutes death rumors, notes media double standard

 September 3, 2025

Rumors of President Donald Trump's death swirled over a recent weekend, sparking widespread speculation and concern among the public. Trump, rebuffing these rumors, took the opportunity to highlight a contrast in media engagement compared to former President Joe Biden, as Breitbart reports.

During a quiet weekend for Trump, in which he briefly stepped back from the media spotlight, online chatter speculated that he had passed away. This culminated in over 1.3 million user interactions on various social media platforms discussing the president's alleged demise.

Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy brought this topic to Trump's attention, querying whether and how the president became aware of the false claims about his death.

Trump responded that he had not seen the rumors himself but was informed about the extensive social media engagement on the matter.

Bizarre rumors spur presidential reaction

On the following Tuesday, Trump returned to public attention, appearing vibrant and engaging with the media. His absence had only been a brief hiatus from news conferences, yet it was enough to fuel wild speculation.

The president expressed amusement and confusion over the situation, noting that while his brief break led to assumptions about his health, Biden had been absent from the public eye much longer in the past without similar rumors.

"People didn’t see you for a couple of days -- 1.3 million user engagements as of Saturday morning about your demise," Doocy commented.

Trump appeared surprised, emphasizing the sharp contrast in treatment he perceives from the media compared to that of his predecessor.

Trump highlights differences in media coverage

Trump elaborated on the disparities in media expectations for himself versus former President Joe Biden.

He recounted his active engagement with the media in the days prior to his quiet weekend, underscoring his frustration with the narrative constructed during his short absence.

“Really? It’s sort of crazy, but last week I did numerous news conferences -- all successful, they went very well, like this is going very well. And then, I didn’t do any for two days, and they said, ‘There must be something wrong with him,’” Trump told Doocy during their exchange.

He continued, contrasting his own media availability with Biden's, stating, "Biden wouldn’t do them for months. You wouldn’t see them, and nobody ever said there was ever anything wrong with him, and we know he wasn’t in the greatest of shape," highlighting what he sees as a double standard in media coverage and public perception.

Media engagement, public perception

Further controversy stemmed from historical reports, with Breitbart News highlighting in March 2021 that Biden had not held a solo press conference since his inauguration 40 days earlier. Additionally, in October 2021, the Republican National Committee noted Biden had skipped press conferences since July of that year.

The juxtaposition of Trump’s brief media break with Biden’s much longer absences from solo press conferences paints a stark picture of differing expectations for each leader. Trump used this occasion to underscore what he believes is a biased approach by the media and some public sectors.

To mitigate the rumors and confirm his well-being, Trump took to Truth Social on Sunday following the rumors, posting, “Never felt better.” This statement, aimed at reassurance, was typical of his direct approach to communication with the public via social media platforms.

Reagan Reese interview precedes viral rumor

Adding to the narrative, Reagan Reese, a White House correspondent for the Daily Caller, had conducted an hour-long interview with Trump mere hours before the rumors gained traction. This interview depicted a president who was engaged and fully capable of fulfilling his duties, further debunking the false speculation about his health.

The rumors, although short-lived, brought to light significant discussions about presidential health transparency and media coverage, issues that continue to spark debate under different administrations.

As the situation normalized, Trump's criticisms of Biden's media strategy remain a significant aspect of his public dialogue, suggesting that debates over media visibility and presidential health are likely to persist in political discourse.
