Trump threatens military action in Nigeria over Christian persecution
President Donald Trump has dropped a bombshell, warning Nigeria that the U.S. military might storm in “guns-a-blazing” if the slaughter of Christians by radical Islamists doesn’t stop, as Breitbart reports.
Trump’s fiery statements on Truth Social, coupled with threats to cut all aid to Nigeria, have reignited focus on the brutal violence against Christians and the deepening humanitarian crisis in the country.
Let’s rewind to the core of this story: Trump has made it clear that continued attacks on Christians could trigger severe consequences for Nigeria.
Trump’s Stark Warning to Nigeria
He didn’t mince words, instructing the Department of War to gear up for potential action that would be “fast, vicious, and sweet” if the Nigerian government fails to act.
Trump also slapped Nigeria with the label of “Country of Particular Concern,” signaling deep alarm over what he calls an “existential threat” to Christianity there.
He pointed to chilling numbers, noting that 3,100 Christians have been killed in Nigeria alone, compared to 4,476 worldwide, as evidence of a targeted crisis.
Violence Against Christians Escalates
The violence isn’t new -- back on April 14, 2014, Boko Haram kidnapped nearly 300 schoolgirls from the Christian town of Chibok in Borno State.
Eleven years later, over 90 of those girls are still missing, with heartbreaking reports of forced indoctrination and children born from assaults by their captors.
More recently, over 5,000 people fled into Cameroon after Boko Haram overran the border town of Kirawa, as reported by Reuters and highlighted by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.
Nigerian Officials Push Back Hard
Nigerian officials, however, are singing a different tune, with Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar telling Newsweek there’s no genocide happening in the country, period.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a Muslim, doubled down, dismissing claims of religious persecution as nothing but “a lie from the pit of hell.”
But let’s be real -- denials don’t erase the testimonies of fleeing families or the empty desks of those Chibok girls, and they certainly don’t fool those watching this tragedy unfold.
Trump, Allies Demand Action
Trump has called on Rep. Riley Moore (R-WV) and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) to dig into the situation and report back with hard facts.
As Trump himself declared on Truth Social, “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
Meanwhile, voices like Sen. Cruz are amplifying the urgency, pushing his Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act to slap sanctions on Nigerian officials who turn a blind eye -- or worse -- to the bloodshed, while even rapper Nicki Minaj has chimed in on X to thank Trump for spotlighting this “mass slaughter.”
