Former President Donald Trump announced a new initiative dubbed "Operation Aurora" during a recent campaign rally held in Aurora, Colorado, aimed at deporting immigrant gang members should he win a second term in the White House. The proposal involves the use of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, an act Trump cited as the basis for deporting what he referred to as "savage gangs."

According to Washington Examiner, Trump criticizes Democratic leaders and calls for action against immigrant gang members.

At the rally, Trump explicitly criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, accusing them of allowing Venezuelan gangs to thrive in Aurora. He claimed Aurora had been overtaken by a Venezuelan gang identified as Tren de Aragua, asserting, "Kamala has imported an army of illegal alien gang members and migrant criminals from the dungeons of the Third World."

Although not typically considered a battleground state, Trump's rally in Colorado aimed to galvanize supporters by highlighting alleged threats related to immigration. He called for the implementation of the death penalty for migrants who commit certain crimes against Americans or law enforcement personnel.

Trump Criticizes Vice President And Local Leaders

Local officials opposed Trump's assertions. Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman, a Republican, disputed Trump's description of the gang situation in the city. He said people have exaggerated concerns about Venezuelan gangs, describing Aurora as a "safe city."

Coffman clarified that a few apartment complexes in the city, with a population of over 400,000, largely confined the gang-related incidents. Council Member Danielle Jurinsky agreed and stressed that social media and selected news outlets mainly overstated and fueled claims of a gang takeover.

Trump also criticized Gov. Jared Polis during his speech for attempts to remove him from the primary ballot. The organization Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics initiated the bid, citing Trump's involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Local Officials Dispute Gang Claims

The controversial remarks didn't stop with Governor Polis. Trump suggested that Colorado's voter base would express its dissatisfaction with efforts to exclude him via a "protest vote." He contended, "I think Colorado will show a tremendous protest vote for what they did to try and keep me off the ballot."

Despite Trump's focused narrative on gang influence, Mayor Coffman reiterated that the city of Aurora remains secure. Both Coffman and Jurinsky labeled the claims regarding Train de Aragua taking over the city as baseless and amplified in part by social media.

Meanwhile, Vice President Harris responded to Trump's remarks in an interview with Univision. She criticized Trump for thwarting a potential bill aimed at enhancing border security, linking the legislation's failure to what she described as a "broken immigration system."
