President-elect Donald Trump has backtracked on his initial endorsement of Chad Chronister to head the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) following a controversy over past comments made by the nominee.

Trump clarified that he decided to retract the nomination after Chronister expressed a desire to withdraw, as the Washington Examiner reports.

Trump's presidential transition team initially announced Chronister, a Florida sheriff, as the nominee to lead the DEA.
