Vance Says Trump Would Consider A Democrat For Cabinet

 August 31, 2024

In a recent television interview, JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, stated that former President Donald Trump would consider appointing a Democrat to his Cabinet if re-elected.

In a show of bipartisanship, both major party candidates have expressed willingness to include members of the opposing party in their administrations, The Hill reported.

During a Fox News interview on Friday, Vance highlighted that Trump's administration could potentially include Democrats, showcasing an openness to cross-party collaboration. He noted recent endorsements from figures with Democratic backgrounds, such as RFK Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard, who have supported Trump.

Bipartisan Efforts In Campaign Promises

This commitment to bipartisanship was mirrored by Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, in a CNN interview the previous day. Harris discussed her intention to appoint a Republican to her Cabinet should she win the upcoming election.

Such moves are not unprecedented. Historical examples include President Obama's inclusion of Republicans in his administration and Trump's previous tenure, where he also appointed members of the opposing party.

Engaging A Diverse Voter Base

Vance's remarks underscore an effort to appeal to a diverse electorate by focusing on common policy priorities. He emphasized issues like lowering American energy prices, increasing domestic production and strengthening border security.

He stated, "We agree that American energy prices should be lower. We agree that we should be making more of our own stuff in the United States of America. We agree that we should close down the border and stop the flow of illegal drugs and trafficking into our country."

Past Endorsements And Future Collaborations

Vance cited the significance of endorsements from Democrats who align with Trump's policies. He specifically mentioned RFK Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard, the latter having left the Democratic Party in 2022.

"We actually got a lot of great Democratic support, we just got RFK [Jr.], of course, Tulsi Gabbard, who endorsed the president in just the last couple of days," Vance said during the interview.

Voices From Different Political Spectrums

Harris echoed the sentiment of inclusivity in her statement, saying, "I think it's important to have people at the table — when some of the most important decisions are being made — that have different views, different experiences."

She added, "And I think it would be to the benefit of the American public to have a member of my Cabinet who was a Republican."

Common Ground On Policy Issues

Vance elaborated on the core issues uniting Trump supporters, framing them as "basic common sense stuff" essential for the country's progress.

The vice presidential nominee's approach suggests a strategic positioning to garner support from not only traditional Republican voters but also independents and disenfranchised Democrats.

Recognition Of Effective Administration Members

Earlier this year, Vance also praised Lina Khan of the Federal Trade Commission, highlighting her effective handling of antitrust issues, particularly concerning technology companies. He described her as "one of the rare Biden administration members doing a pretty good job."

Moreover, this commendation is part of a broader appreciation for individuals across the political spectrum who are making significant contributions to their fields.
