Walz Calls DOGE’s Trillion-Dollar Budget Cut Strategy ‘Practical’
With the inauguration looming, President-elect Donald Trump has established the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), appointing tech mogul Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy as volunteer leaders.
DOGE will collaborate with the Office of Management and Budget to implement significant budgetary reductions, Washington Examiner reported.
The creation of DOGE marks a pivotal move in Trump’s administrative plans. By involving figures like Musk, known for his revolutionary work in the tech industry, and Ramaswamy, a critic of governmental overreach, Trump signals a hard push towards reducing federal expenses.
New Department Focused on Efficiency
Rep. Mike Walz has publicly endorsed the potential of DOGE to avert financial disasters. He expressed this confidence during an interview on the "One Nation with Brian Kilmeade" show, where he discussed the future impacts of DOGE.
Brian Kilmeade raised questions about the feasibility of cutting trillions from the government's budget. Walz responded positively, emphasizing the innovative capabilities of Musk and Ramaswamy. He highlighted their success in transforming major industries like automotive and energy, suggesting that their approach could be similarly transformative in government.
Walz's Vision of Government Transformation
"I do think it’s practical, Brian. You’re talking about people that have transformed whole industries: space, automobile, energy, right? Even investments into healthcare. So, we do need that mindset and I do think there is massive amounts that can and should and have to be cut. The balance sheet just isn’t sustainable anymore. So it’s really not an option and we shouldn’t wait until we go off the financial cliff to start taking meaningful action,” said Walz on the show.
According to Walz, the initiative is not merely an option but a necessity to prevent the government from reaching a financial breaking point.
DOGE Leaders Set Aggressive Goals
Under the leadership of Musk and Ramaswamy, DOGE aims to assemble a small yet effective team focused on reducing government size and cost. This includes potentially eliminating certain federal agencies deemed unnecessary.
Vivek Ramaswamy has been vocal about his views on reducing government size, including his stance on dismantling the Department of Education, a position he championed during his earlier campaigns.
Impacts of Musk's Leadership Style
Musk’s recent acquisition of Twitter, now referred to as X, showcased his cost-cutting fervor. He substantially downsized the company’s staff, demonstrating his commitment to efficiency, a trait he is expected to bring into his new role at DOGE.
This aggressive approach to budget management by Musk is seen as a template for what could happen on a broader scale within the federal government.
Changes in Political and Personal Careers
Following his robust endorsement of DOGE, Walz made a significant career shift. Specifically, he resigned from his position in Congress to serve as Trump's national security advisor. Consequently, this left his House seat vacant, signaling a new phase in his professional life aligned with the current administration's goals.
Moreover, this transition underscores the serious commitment and reshuffling within Trump’s circle, ultimately aiming to align key positions with loyal and like-minded individuals.
