White House Efforts to Hide Biden's Cognitive Decline Exposed in New Report

 December 21, 2024

A Wall Street Journal investigation has unveiled attempts by the White House to mask the cognitive deterioration of President Joe Biden during the course of his term.

The investigative report highlighted extensive measures by Biden's team to manage public perceptions of his health, from hiring a vocal coach to limiting his public appearances, as the Daily Mail reports.

The report initially focuses on the hiring of a vocal coach aimed at helping President Biden manage public speeches, a sign of the administration's concerns about his mental acuity. Furthermore, it was revealed that on days Biden was not performing well, deemed "bad days," his public engagements were either scaled back or canceled.

In addition to altering his schedule, senior officials were often placed in roles typically reserved for Biden himself, hinting at an organizational strategy to mask his declining capacity. This adaptation included significant interventions by influential advisors such as Bruce Reed, Steve Ricchetti, and Mike Donilon.

During critical moments of his presidency, such as the withdrawal from Afghanistan, Biden's inability to engage effectively raised alarms even among allies, with Democratic Congressman Adam Smith noting difficulties in communication.

Concerns Amplified During Public Appearances

Amid these internal adjustments, public appearances by Biden were carefully managed. His aides employed detailed instruction cards to assist him during speeches and interactions, and strategies were devised to handle his weakening vocal strength.

Notably, Biden's public debate with former President Donald Trump in late June starkly highlighted his cognitive struggles, igniting debates over his fitness for office and leading to widespread calls from within his own party not to seek reelection.

Despite the controversies, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president a month following the debate, a move seen by some as a passing of the torch amid growing concerns over his capacity to lead.

Special Counsel Report Sheds Light on Biden's Condition

Special Counsel Robert Hur's investigation into Biden's handling of classified documents further complicated the narrative.

Hur described Biden as "forgetful and frail," noting his struggles during interview preparations. However, Hur chose not to charge Biden, believing he would appear sympathetic to a jury.

This portrayal by Hur dovetailed with efforts described in the report where the pandemic was utilized not only as a necessary health precaution but also as a means to limit Biden's potential public gaffes.

Despite the White House's attempts to control the narrative, press aides were reportedly instructed to keep negative coverage from Biden's briefings, suggesting a broad approach to managing information accessible to the president.

White House and Advisors' Dominant Role

With the presidency increasingly influenced by his close advisors, questions arose about who was actually making the key decisions. A well-connected Democratic Party strategist highlighted that influence over Biden was tightly held by individuals who shunned public roles.

The contrast between Biden's tentative public engagements and the vigorous schedule maintained by his wife, Jill Biden, further fueled public speculation about the president's health, which had been a subject of concern even before his presidency began.

As Biden's presidency drew to a close, his approval ratings saw a significant decline, not helped by a controversial pardon of his son Hunter amid these challenges.

White House Responds to Allegations

In response to the revelations, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates strongly refuted claims of Biden's decline, emphasizing his policy achievements and attention to detail which, according to Bates, rebuilt the middle class and marked a record of accomplishment.

Despite Bates' defense, the public and political reaction has been mixed, with many expressing disappointment over the alleged cover-up and its implications for governance.

Biden, known for his lifelong struggle with stuttering, which has impacted his public speaking, now faces the final assessment of his legacy as his term nears its end, overshadowed by these contentious revelations.
