White House Slams Recent Biden 'Freeze' Videos As ‘Fake’

 June 18, 2024

The White House has forcefully dismissed a series of problematic videos of President Joe Biden circulating online, labeling them misleading attempts by right-wing critics to undermine his credibility.

Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre came to Biden’s defense, emphasizing his capacity for office and criticizing the opposition's tactics with regard to touting the unflattering footage, as the Washington Examiner reports.

Unflattering videos of Biden have recently surfaced online, causing a stir on social media and drawing critical attention. The White House attributes these videos to partisan critics seeking to question Biden's capabilities.

Videos Show Biden Assisted by Obama, Meloni

Two particular videos have fueled the controversy. One video portrays former President Barack Obama and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni assisting Biden during public events. In one instance last weekend, a video purportedly shows Biden freezing and seeking Obama's help to leave the stage after talking with comedian Jimmy Kimmel at a campaign fundraiser in Hollywood.

Another example from the G7 summit in Italy shows Meloni aiding Biden when he steps aside to speak with a skydiver. These images have been shared widely, prompting significant discussion and speculation about Biden’s fitness for office.

Jean-Pierre Dismisses Videos as "Cheap Fakes”

Jean-Pierre strongly countered assertions in these videos, denouncing them as “cheap fakes.” She specifically criticized reports that depicted Obama physically guiding Biden off stage, implying an exaggerated narrative meant to portray Biden as incapacitated.

“The right-wing critics of the president have a credibility problem,” Jean-Pierre stated on Monday. She argued that these tactics highlight the desperation of Biden's opponents, who, instead of focusing on substantive political debate, resort to spreading manipulated content.

Biden's Close Relationship with Obama

Jean-Pierre made it clear that the interactions between Biden and Obama, presented in the contentious videos, stem from their close and familial relationship. “Presidents Biden and Obama have a relationship,” she noted. “They are friends. They are like family to each other. … That is what you saw.”

This emphasizes the personal rapport between them rather than an indication of Biden’s inability to operate independently.

Biden's Juneteenth Appearance Defended

The controversy also extended to Biden's participation in Juneteenth celebrations at the White House, where he was criticized for seemingly standing frozen while others around him danced or swayed to the music.

Jean-Pierre called these criticisms irrelevant, stating, “The president was there listening to the music, and he didn’t dance. Excuse me, I did not know not dancing was a health issue. That’s a weird thing to flag.”

Concerns Over Biden’s Age

Despite White House reassurances, public opinion reflects growing concerns about Biden’s age. Recent voter polls indicate worry among both Republicans and Democrats about the president’s age affecting his job performance.

In response to these concerns, Biden recently told TIME magazine, “I can do it better than anybody you know… You’re looking at me, I can take you too.” His statement is a direct assertion of his confidence in handling presidential responsibilities.

White House Criticizes 'Misinformation'

Jean-Pierre further stressed that many media outlets, including conservative ones, have fact-checked and debunked the manipulated videos.

“What they’re doing is pure bad faith, and it’s been fact-checked by many, including conservative media,” she asserted, reiterating the administration’s stand against misinformation.

Conclusion

The ongoing debate surrounding the authenticity and implications of the recent videos of President Biden highlights the polarized political climate. The White House has labeled these portrayals as manipulative, defending Biden's capabilities and the integrity of his actions.

Biden's relationship with Obama, the misleading narratives presented, and public concerns about his age underscore the complexity of the issue. The administration continues to combat what it perceives as deliberate misinformation aimed at undermining Biden's presidential image.

This story will likely continue to develop as more details and responses emerge, reflecting broader tensions in current U.S. political discourse.
