Reality TV Personality Tammy Slaton Facing Scrutiny for Conduct After Recent Arrest

 September 5, 2024

Reality star Amy Slaton, known for her role on the show 1,000-Lb. Sisters, was arrested at the Tennessee Safari Park on charges related to drugs and child endangerment.

Slaton's arrest took place on Monday, Sept. 3, at the popular zoo attraction in Alamo, Tennessee. and her children were taken into the custody of her sister, Tammy Slaton, after the incident, as People reports.

According to reports from law enforcement, officers responded to the zoo after receiving a call about a visitor potentially being bitten by a camel.

While addressing the situation, police noticed the smell of marijuana coming from Amy Slaton’s vehicle. This led to the discovery of drugs inside the car.

Drug and Child Endangerment Charges Follow

Amy Slaton, 36, shares two sons -- Gage Deon, 4, and Glenn Allen -- with her ex-husband Michael Halterman, from whom she separated earlier this year.

The couple's divorce filing occurred in March 2023, leaving Amy as the primary caregiver of their children. At the time of her arrest, Amy’s children were present, leading to charges of child endangerment.

Authorities reported finding marijuana and mushrooms in her vehicle, both of which are categorized as illegal substances. The drugs were allegedly visible to officers, who also cited the smell of marijuana as a factor that led them to search the car. Amy, along with a man identified as Brian Scott Lovvorn, was taken into custody.

Amy Receives Medical Attention at the Scene

Before being taken into custody, Amy was provided with medical attention at the scene. Stephen Sutton, a representative of the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department, stated that Amy required onsite care before being transported by authorities. A photograph published by TMZ shows her being treated on a stretcher by EMS workers.

The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department later confirmed that Amy had been released on bond, along with Lovvorn, the following day. They both posted a $10,000 bond on Tuesday, Sept. 4, before being picked up by Amy's brother, Chris Combs.

Authorities Discover Drugs During Investigation

Amy and Lovvorn now face serious charges, including illegal possession of schedule I and schedule VI drugs. The charges stem from the substances discovered in Amy’s vehicle at the time of her arrest. Additionally, the two have been charged with two counts of child endangerment. These charges have raised significant concerns about the welfare of Amy's young children.

The exact location of where Tammy Slaton picked up the children remains unclear. It is not known whether she took custody of them at the zoo or at the Crockett County Sheriff's Office. Nevertheless, the Tennessee Department of Child Services is set to investigate the children’s living arrangements to determine the best course of action for their care.

Tennessee Department of Child Services to Investigate

Following the arrest, the involvement of the Tennessee Department of Child Services suggests that a thorough examination of the children's situation will be conducted. Authorities are focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of Amy’s two sons.

As of now, Amy and Lovvorn are facing accusations but have not been convicted of any crimes. The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department was quick to remind the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. In a statement shared on Facebook, the department stated, "The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence."

Legal Proceedings Await Amy Slaton

The legal process for Amy Slaton is ongoing, and further developments are expected as the case proceeds through the court system. Both she and Lovvorn will have to answer to the charges in upcoming court appearances.

Amy’s arrest adds to the challenges she has faced recently, including her public divorce from Michael Halterman earlier this year. Halterman filed for divorce in March 2023, leading to changes in the custody arrangement of their two children. The latest incident could have significant implications for her role as a mother and reality TV personality.
