Tim Walz Accused by Former Student of Harboring Maoist Ideologies

 August 19, 2024

Democratic vice-presidential candidate Gov. Tim Walz is facing allegations of longstanding connections to China, with concerns being raised about his pro-Maoist sympathies.

These claims, made by a former student of Walz's have prompted House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer to initiate an investigation into the governor's relationships with Chinese Communist Party entities and officials, as the Post Millennial reports.

The scrutiny of Walz's ties to China stems from a former student, identified only as Shad, who accompanied him on several trips to the country. Shad alleges that Walz harbors a deep admiration for China's communist regime, which he first encountered during a visit to Hong Kong in 1989.

That visit coincided with the Tiananmen Square protests, and upon returning to the United States, Walz reportedly praised China despite the massacre that had taken place.

Walz's Frequent China Visits Spark Controversy

Over the next decade, Walz traveled to China approximately 30 times. These trips included sponsoring student excursions and serving as a visiting fellow at a Chinese university. Shad, who was on some of these trips, claims that Walz often purchased multiple copies of Mao Zedong's Little Red Book, which he allegedly gave as gifts.

Shad recalls, "At night, we’d go out, we’d walk the street fairs. We’d be buying souvenirs, and Tim was always buying the Little Red Book. He said he gave them as gifts ... I saw him buy at least a dozen on the trip." He further compared this behavior to "being in Germany and buying copies of Mein Kampf," expressing his concern over Walz's apparent reverence for Maoist ideology.

In addition to his numerous visits to China, Walz married his wife, Gwen Whipple, on the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown, choosing China as their honeymoon destination.

This symbolic connection to a significant date in Chinese history has further fueled suspicions about his sympathies towards the Chinese Communist Party.

House Oversight Committee Demands Investigation

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has demanded an investigation into Walz's relationships with Chinese officials and Communist Party entities. This call for action has been echoed by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AK), who has urged Walz to provide an explanation for his "unusual, 35-year relationship with Communist China."

Shad has also contributed a report to Comer's office, detailing his concerns about Walz's connections to China. He stated, "It was almost a daily revelation of how much he adores the communist regime." Shad further asserted, "There was no doubt he was a true believer."

The allegations against Walz have been bolstered by his political opponents, including former President Donald Trump, who labeled Walz a "radical leftist."

Shad echoed this sentiment, saying, "If there was any doubt about what I’m saying just look at the policies enacted by his administration like the country’s worst abortion law, anti-free speech, the riots. He’s a Maoist to the core and should not be underestimated."

Walz's Spokesman Defends Governor's Record

In response to the growing controversy, a spokesman for Walz acknowledged the investigation but defended the governor's record. The spokesman stated, "Throughout his career, Governor Walz has stood up to the CCP, fought for human rights and democracy, and always put American jobs and manufacturing first."

The spokesman also accused Republicans of distorting facts, stating that they are "twisting basic facts and desperately lying to distract from the Trump-Vance agenda: praising dictators, and sending American jobs to China."

He emphasized that "Vice President Harris and Governor Walz will ensure we win the competition with China and will always stand up for our values and interests in the face of China’s threats."

Conclusion: Allegations and Investigations Unfold

As the investigation into Gov. Tim Walz's connections with China unfolds, the allegations of his pro-Maoist sympathies continue to draw attention.

With key political figures like House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and Sen. Tom Cotton calling for explanations, the controversy surrounding Walz's decades-long relationship with China is far from resolved.

The coming weeks will likely shed more light on these claims, as both supporters and critics await further developments.
