In a fiery outburst, former President Donald Trump has implicated Vice President Kamala Harris in a spying scandal involving Iranian hackers.

According to Newsweek, the controversy centers on allegations that Iranian operatives hacked Trump's campaign data and shared it with individuals linked to Harris and President Biden.

The FBI, along with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), announced last August their ongoing investigation into Iranian attempts to undermine U.S. democratic institutions.

Iranian cyber actors accessed non-public campaign data from Trump’s team during late June and early July and sent it to people associated with Biden's reelection campaign.

Despite the sensitive nature of the emails, there is no evidence to suggest that Biden’s team engaged with or responded to the unauthorized data.

FBI Investigation Uncovers Foreign Election Interference

According to the FBI, these cyber intrusions are part of a broader effort by countries like Russia, Iran, and China to exploit vulnerabilities in the U.S. electoral system.

Earlier this month, the Department of Justice further underscored this pattern of foreign interference by indicting two individuals connected to the Kremlin for attempting to influence the 2024 U.S. election through right-wing media funding.

Biden’s team reportedly received the emails before Trump’s campaign publicly acknowledged the Iranian hacker attack.

Trump's Campaign Responds to Allegations

Trump took to Truth Social to express his outrage, accusing Harris of being part of a scheme to spy on his campaign, a saga he termed the "Iran, Iran, Iran case." He questioned whether Harris would resign from politics as a result.

“FBI CAUGHT IRAN SPYING ON MY CAMPAIGN AND GIVING ALL OF THE INFORMATION TO THE KAMALA HARRIS CAMPAIGN. THEREFORE SHE AND HER CAMPAIGN WERE ILLEGALLY SPYING ON ME. TO BE KNOWN AS THE IRAN, IRAN, IRAN CASE! WILL KAMALA RESIGN IN DISGRACE FROM POLITICS? WILL THE COMMUNIST LEFT PICK A NEW CANDIDATE TO REPLACE HER?” Trump posted.

Karoline Leavitt, Trump’s campaign national press secretary, further accused the Iranian efforts of being a maneuver to support Harris and Biden, given Trump’s history of tough sanctions against Iran.

Harris Campaign Addresses the Accusations

In response, Harris' campaign spokesperson, Morgan Finkelstein, confirmed their cooperation with law enforcement to tackle the issue, strongly condemning any foreign attempts to interfere in the U.S. elections.

“We have cooperated with the appropriate law enforcement authorities since we were made aware that individuals associated with the then-Biden campaign were among the intended victims of this foreign influence operation. We condemn in the strongest terms any effort by foreign actors to interfere in U.S. elections, including this unwelcome and unacceptable malicious activity,” Finkelstein stated.

Despite the alarming nature of the accusations, major news outlets such as Politico, The New York Times, and The Washington Post deemed the materials not newsworthy enough to report on at the time.
