Trump blasts Biden for saying ‘no comment’ to question about Hawaii wildfires that killed nearly 100

 August 15, 2023

Former President Trump sharply criticized President Joe Biden's dismissive "no comment" reply to the fatal wildfires in Hawaii, labeling it as "utterly deplorable and inexcusable," as Fox News reported.

In a video message, Trump expressed condolences to the victims of the unprecedented wildfires in Maui, Hawaii, which claimed scores of lives and caused devastation throughout the region.

Trump stated, "I would like to express my sympathy and warmest regards to the people of Hawaii, and specifically all of those who have been so gravely and irreparably hurt by the tragedy of the wildfires in Maui."

He continued, emphasizing that the destruction caused by the catastrophe was more severe than initially anticipated and that such a tragedy "should never have happened."

Trump's Criticism of Gov. Green's Response

The former president also did not hold back in critiquing the response of Democrat Hawaii Gov. Josh Green, who, in Trump's view, has failed to handle the situation adequately.

Trump stated, "The aftermath is going very poorly with the governor of the island[s] wanting to do nothing but blame it on global warming and other things that just happen to pop into his head."

Biden's Unacceptable Silence

Trump lambasted President Biden's nonchalant attitude toward the tragic event.

When asked for his comment on the rising death toll while leaving the beach, President Biden responded with "no comment" and a smile. This reaction was not only deemed shocking by Trump but also disgraceful.

"It is a disgraceful thing that Joe Biden refuses to help or comment on the tragedy in Maui, just as he refused to comment on the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio for a very, very long time," Trump added.

Trump referred to Biden as "the most incompetent president in the history of our country."

His criticisms were echoed by other voices, including Democrats like former Hawaii state Rep. Mark Kaniela Ing, now serving as the national director of the Green New Deal Network.

Kaniela Ing referred to Biden's remark as "shocking" in a phone interview.

Contrasting Responses and Growing Backlash

Reactions to the wildfires, and the government's handling of the disaster, continued to mount on Monday.

While Democratic National Committee spokesperson Ammar Moussa defended President Biden's decision to sign an emergency declaration for Hawaii, others highlighted the perceived lack of urgency in the administration's response.

Bloomberg White House correspondent Justin Sink reported on Sunday that President Biden had nothing to say about the rising death toll from the severe wildfires while at Delaware's Rehoboth Beach.

Sink noted on X, previously referred to as Twitter, "After spending a few hours on the Rehoboth beach, @potus was questioned about the increasing fatalities in Hawaii. "No comment," was his response before he left for home."

The fatalities had reached 96 by Monday afternoon, with hundreds more still missing.
